Yamaha Viking Negative Reviews

Seems like some people think Yamaha should have developed a completely new engine or at least drop in a bigger one...

What do you guys have to say about these reviews?

“I understand their position, but thought they would have built something a little closer to both sides of the industry. At least put something in it other than that tired Raptor motor … very disappointed.”
“The sport market is dead. If you guys actually saw the market shares you would see for yourselves that, yeah, they are cool, but aren’t huge sellers. I would take this same power plant that is reliable over any Polaris any day … I am disappointed they didn’t come out with a bigger [engine], but that is the only downside to this machine.”

Why do you want a bigger engine so bad? Is it for extra towing capacity, or just to go faster?

With Yamaha aiming more at the utility side of the market, the speed probably doesn't matter as much to them.

Would a bigger engine even translate into higher towing capacity?

i'm not saying i want a bigger engine, im saying it's what the people disappointed with the viking that left those comments said. it actually seems like the viking isn't just aimed at the utility market but also for recreation riding, hunting, etc.

but of course utility is the much bigger focus since it's the biggest market
seems like most of the criticism is coming from Rhino owners. Typical.
oh yeah, for sure, over on Rhinoforum, all the Rhino people do is bitch about Yamaha, and how they hate the Viking, Yamaha should have make a sport SXS with a Vtwin motor..bla bla.

I will admit though, i do have a CanAm Outlander with the 800 Vtwin, that performs and sounds amazing, i wish the Viking was like that. But im not pissed about it, like a majority of the Rhino people. I never had a Rhino. So im happy with what i got.
The Viking will do everything it's intended to do and everything the rest will do just a little slower than some but at the end of the day while your sitting back enjoying your favorite beverage the rest will be fixing there machines! Seen it way to many times!

The Rhino guy's are just tired of the bigger machines passing by leaving them behind and they wanted the same and Yamaha didn't give it to them. I can understand there frustration. But the Rhino is still one of the best built machine hands down!

I have a 2012 Can Am Commander 800XT that will blow the doors off the Yamaha SXS new and old. It has way more speed and the thing has a ton of low end. It replaced a 2002 Grizz 660 that never gave me an ounce of trouble and is still running strong today. The Commander is a good machine and hasn't given me any trouble but it's NOT a Yamaha. It has a terrible clutch setup will roast you out of the thing, almost guaranteed to lose weight and noisy very noisy!
When the time comes the Commander will be replaced by a Viking and everything will be back to normal again! lol
