I am thinking of getting a windshield but I'm not sure if I want the wind deflector or the fold down version. Does anyone have a picture of the fold down one in the down position? I would probably leave it down most of the time and the main advantage it would have is in the rain. I live in Florida so the winters aren't too bad. We have a few cold snaps throughout the winter but they are only a few days at a time, usually. So I guess my question is, is the fold down version worth almost $200 more? I am leaning toward the small one mainly due to the price but I am not ruling out the fold down one.

Thanks,
Chris

Ive had both on my last sxs, 2010 Ranger 500, tried the half and full windshields, didnt like either, both sucked in dust like crazy, it causes a vacuum. But if you've got to have one. Id go with the fold down style.

That is my third option and one I am thinking about, too. With your advice, it might be the one I go with.

Thanks,

it would be the way to go, theres a guy over on another Viking site, that made his own full windshield, looked really good, and alot cheaper than Yamaha or aftermarket

I'd go full windshield or none.

do you think if you installed some kidn of deflector on the top and sides if it would help with keeping dirt and dust from sucking into the cabin?

I looked on the other site but I did not see anything about someone making a windshield. Maybe I just over looked it. Could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Chris

Like the full windshield the guy made, looked fantastic. I'm still waiting on the high dollar fold down to come in though. One thing I've have learned without it so far is that in the evening and the mornings when I ride, it gets a bit chilly. So the option of folding up or down is really gonna make my day. All of my SxS buddies say the same thing about the windshields though, ya gotta have something on the back or you will get a mouthful of dust!

windshield

I went with the 2 piece fold down. It is really nice for rain and cold mornings or evenings. As far as sucking in the dust, your going to get dirty anyway. I really don't ride trails so that probably won't be an issue for me.

I am toying with the idea of making one. If I do, I am thinking of leaving a gap at the bottom. Hoping that this will help equalize the negative pressure that is sucking in the dust. Sounds good in theory, anyway.
