I was expecting Yamaha to come out with a sport UTV instead of a utility side-by-side. Yamaha did its market research and found that 66% of the UTV market is for utility, and it decided to compete there instead.

So it makes sense that Yamaha went where the dollars are, but do you think that they will follow the Viking with a sporty model as well?

after hearing how disappointed a good number of people are with the Viking because of how similar it is to the Rhino, which isn't a good thing, I think we'll have to see how good sales go. If all goes well they just could proceed with a sport model.

I don't feel like it's that similar to the Rhino. The design is new. I made a thread comparing the Viking to the Rhino. Feel free to contribute to it if you can pinpoint the similarities and differences.

I feel like the Viking is a nice upgrade over the Rhino.

In time I think Yamaha will have a sport machine. Will it be a RZR equal, won't say no but doubt it. It will be fun and very dependable but probably not as fast as people will expect but for the person/family that just wants to have fun and not worried about what everyone else thinks or is driving they won't be disappointed. I hope that if Yamaha comes out with a Sport UTV that it will go fast. Isn't that kinda the point? Otherwise it should go slower and be a Work UTV.

As long as its safe, I want it to go fast!

Man you can make anything go fast if you know how to fiddle ;) Viking is a utility SxS, even its name sounds tough and strong, just like Rhino. Yamahas not in the sport game, its low volume. Yamaha produces attractive and functional machines. Speed freaks know where to go. Yamaha as a brand has always been more utility focused with ATVs and SxS, Can-Am have always been the demons.

And besides there are trade offs for more speed and more power, they are more heat and more noise...

Each brand has its own personality, you can tell the Viking is a Yamaha, and thats a good thing

I just can't see Yamaha coming out with another work-oriented UTV when they just cam out with the Viking. Whatever they come out with next has to be sufficiently distinct from the Viking.

There were rumors and hopes that the Viking would be more sporty, so there is obviously a demand in the market for a sporty Yamaha UTV.

A 6-seater? I didn't think they really made UTVs that big. I guess its main purpose is to transport people and not cargo. Would that really be a better seller than a sport ATV? I feel like the only place to buy 6-seater UTVs would be an airport.

I've rode in one. I had a 660 rhino. The viking rides better, seats 3 people and has a bigger bed. I use them mainly for farm use and a hunting deer and just feel like it's better suited for those chores. I do have property close to the little Sahara state park in Oklahoma and am looking for a ride in one on the dunes before I make my final decision.
