Viking won’t turn over with ignition key

Hello and thank you for the add.

I have a 2018 yamaha viking 700. Won’t turn over when you turn the key. I am able to bypass the starter relay and start it with two screw drivers (PITA). I’ve already replaced the starter relay, the starter and ignition switch.

Battery is fully charged at 100%.

All of the fuses in fuse box next to starter relay test good and are not blown.

Still will not turn over with ignition switch. I’ve ordered a new neutral switch.

Any ideas on what’s wrong is much appreciated.

Thank you!

Welcome to the Viking forum.
Will it crank over and start if you hold the brake pedal down?

So by passing the neutral switch allows it to start?
With a good VOM, is the voltage good at Ign sw, Relay etc...Remember with a Fluke meter the digital numbers are avg...the Bar graft below the digital numbers are REAL voltages and will show intermittent voltages as bar graft will jump around.
BTW a jumper wire is a great test tool
Always check for bad --corroded ground connection at relay. Broken ground ( battery COM) are common.
Thanks, I’ll do that this afternoon

I had the same problem. If you kept holding the starter switch over to try to engage the starter it would come up with a #12 error code. That code was erroneous and that was not the issue. You could jumper across the starter relay and it would engage and start. I replaced the starter relay twice with a Yamaha Starter Relays ($85) that would work for a little while and then do it again. I took the advice of an old mechanic and went to Tractor Supply and bought a heavy duty starter button for a tractor. Installed it on the dash and wired it to either screw on the starter relay switch. That was about 2 years ago and all I have to do is turn the ignition switch on and push the starter button. Have no idea what was causing the problem but so far this has worked just fine.
