It seems like the Yamaha Viking will be a predominantly utility vehicle, which surprises me considering the market seems to be in favor of sports and SxS vehicles. In my opinion, Yamaha should have released the Viking as a 1000cc Sport and marketed it more as competition to the RZR and an evolution of the Rhino, rather than competing with the Polaris Ranger as a SxS utility vehicle. The Yamaha Viking just looks like a goofy three-seater reminiscent of Honda's Big Red or the 4-seater Teryx.

I'm not so sure about Sport side by sides selling out more than Utility vehicles. Sure, sport SxS markets exist but they are very much specialty, niche markets. Utility vehicles are always in demand, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Viking sold well among farmers or contractors. I'm sure it will be different everywhere you go, but I imagine the Viking will be marketed and sold, with success, as solely a utility vehicle. Legroom space provided by the Yamaha Viking will entice consumers looking for alternatives to Polaris' cramped models.
