how long ago did that happen to you? I was wondering if its even worth fixing it since something might be stretched out now or deformed. It might not last very long if it gets repaired.
it happened a couple years ago, ihad close to 20,000 km on the unit so had dealership rebuild transmission and engine at the same time at a cost of $5,500.i have put on about 1,500 km since rebuild with no issues.there isnt a gasket between the cases just gasget maker so if case isnt broke shouldnt be too costly too fix if just doing middle gear.

I have been meaning to read through the manual to see if I will need any specialty tools to do this.
Just a puller for the magneto I think is all you need.

Still waiting to start taking it apart. I have been meaning to read through the manual to see if I will need any specialty tools to do this. Hoping to start next week.
when dealer did my middle gear they had to order a speacial tool to get it apart and took over a month to get.

Well I have started to take it apart. I was looking at the bottom of the engine and noticed what looks like cracks but not sure. I called the Yamaha dealer to get an idea of a new engine. They said they don’t sell engines. I was pretty surprised they do not sell engines.

They just look like casting marks to me so shouldn't be a worry.

I agree, casting marks. And there is no sign of oil leaking from them.

i was told the same thing that yamaha doesn't sell new engines.there are some companies that sell rebuilt ones in the usa and canada, the only issue i had with them is there was no warranty on the rebuilds if they did't install them,so had dealer do rebuild.
