Throttle surge

207 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Sport4x4
My 2014 Viking is really jumpy when trying to ease on the throttle. It makes putting it on the trailer nerve wracking. When I try to ease on the gas , it jumps forward or lurches. Also when trying to go slow, it surges and gets too fast. If I let off of the throttle it brakes with the compression brake. There is no in-between!

How long have you owned this? Has it always done it? How long has it been since the CVT sheaves were serviced?
If this just started and cvt hasn’t been serviced I would start there. Lighter primary sheave weights and or shims would help with this also. I am using 18gr weights and .5mm shim and have great throttle control.
There is also a product called Throttle Max that helps with this too.
It's probably just normal, is this your first CVT transmission, and yes how many miles/hours etc?

I have had this Viking for 3 years now. The surging has always been there but has grown worse. I have never had the CVT sheaves serviced but I will now! I purchased the Throttle Max but it didn't help. Thanks for the reply and help!!

I spoke with a service person and he said it was the normal thing. I have the original transmission.

Yes it is normal to an extent but with the mods mentioned above it can be smoothed out, and since it has been getting worse your cvt needs to be serviced. This should be done every 1500 miles. Good to hear your going to be getting it done, let us know how it comes out.
