Hi Fellas
Thought I’d throw this special break into the mix to get some opinions.
So I removed my rear diff last night to replace the pinion seal and axle seals as they were leaking fairly well. Last 3 rides I was removing the milky water and replaced with fresh oil as I knew a seal replacement was coming up but I thought I’d try and get a couple of rides in before tearing the rear end apart. Unfortunately I forgot to change/top up the fluid on the last ride. When I pulled the diff it had no milky bits and about 100mls of oil in it.
So here’s some questions

1. Maybe too much uggadugga with a impacter the last time I changed the pinion seal.
2. Heat from my lack of fluid on last ride.
3. Heat from exhaust from my 734 before my dynatune was installed (a/f mix).
4. I have removed my handbrake caliper when done BBK, maybe it stabilizes the driveshaft a bit?
5. Wear and tear
6. Bad luck
7. 31” outlaws
8. Too much horsepower and torque lol
9. Maybe a bit of a percentage of 1-9 overall
10. I like to break and replace (upgrade stuff).

Got a new diff coming.
Could replace the pinion as the diff has no play or movement in it. Weld it. Or grind and tap new bolt. Keep it as a spare - like Prince Harry

Had no idea I had a broken bit until I pulled the diff and went to put the boot of driveshaft/brake rotor and the rotor fell off the pinion. Twisted off the threads at the nut.
Any advice would be appreciated so I don’t do this again. But I probably will the way I drive this beast.
Cheers

Best advice I can suggest so you don’t do it again is: “DON’T drive it with no gear oil in it again”
🤪🤣
And use a good quality synthetic gear oil in it like Amsoil severe gear.

That’s the answer I needed to hear. I use Castrol full synthetic syntrax 75/90 or 80/140 in the wet season. Cheers

bummer where did you order your diff from? is your rear skid plate welded or bolted on?
RMATV served me well on that purchase, less that $$1000Aud to Australia including tax and shipping. Rear skid is Ricochet, so yes was removable and the bolts undone nicely from the skid plate lubrication system I was running. Cheers

Bummer, you're out of action! Here's what I think,

1. Maybe too much uggadugga with a impacter the last time I changed the pinion seal.
A. As the thread broke off flush with the nut then definitely too much uggadugga with the rattle gun caused it. It would've twisted with the last do up then snapped off when you went to undo it.
2. Heat from my lack of fluid on last ride.
A. No
3. Heat from exhaust from my 734 before my dynatune was installed (a/f mix).
A. No
4. I have removed my handbrake caliper when done BBK, maybe it stabilizes the driveshaft a bit?
A. Doubt it.
5. Wear and tear
A. Nope.
6. Bad luck
A. Nope
7. 31” outlaws
A. Will stress the drivetrain but not that nut.
8. Too much horsepower and torque lol
A. No doubt but the spline takes the load!
9. Maybe a bit of a percentage of 1-9 overall
10. I like to break and replace (upgrade stuff).
A. Yes you subconsciously wanted to destroy it so that you could buy more stuff 🤣 🤣🤣

Got a new diff coming.
Weld it. Or grind and tap new bolt. Keep it as a spare - like Prince Harry

You could, as it's only holding the yoke on, as long as you don't do it up too tight again!

Thanks Cactus, sounds spot on.
The subconscious Mr.AddToCart in me reigns supreme, costs me some money but I love the adventures. Cheers
