Problem with hd2 center caps

6355 Views 15 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Killians87
I ordered STI HD2 rims from Rocky Mountain. Rims are nice problem is center caps do not have enough clearance to clear the hub. I called Rocky Mountain and the Saturday customer service guy was little help. He gave me STI's number. Said he nor the tech that was there knew about any clearance problems. Does anyone that upgraded to STI rims know of a fix or do I just have small center caps?

Mine are the chrome caps, but i'll send you the pics, did not run into any issues with mine.
Thanks for the pics you sent. I must have gotten small caps like I have on the rhino/grizzly rims. This is stock with the ones they sent me

I guess who ever packaged them included included the wrong caps, they better not charge you for shipping since this is their fault. Contact them and let them know
well I have been on the phone with them twice today. They swear it should fit, and the HD2 are all the same. They told me no way they could have put the wrong ones on the rims. Viking2k14 just ordered some and no problems. They did say Viking2k14 that I ordered the same ones just in a different finish. Im getting very pissed about this. just sent them pics so they can see no **** way it will fit. I was told that I may be charged shipping if I decide to send it back. I promise that wont happen. Im disputing on my Credit Card tomorrow if they don't have a fix.
I noticed Brennan has stars on your caps. Any idea which ones those are since they are not the HD ones.
sorry for all your troubles bossmann. I think the wheels that he has are Motorsport Diesel wheels.
I was just about to mention maybe you can get some rubber gaskets to fill it in but have a smaller inner diameter to fit in the cap but do your best to get the right caps from them. keep us updated on what happens.
Update: Rocky mountain is giving a refund and just sent me shipping labels. Glad they did the right thing. They gave me the option of keeping them and sending me replacements when they get them.

Hello Mark,

Sorry to hear about the center cap problems. Unfortunately the center hub on the Viking sticks out too far and pops the center caps out of the wheels. We use this same wheel and cap for all of the other Yamaha ATV's and UTV's without any issues. Currently we are developing a cap for the Viking application now and the ETA is approximately 60 days.

Thanks,

Well finally things are going right, keep us posted on any updates from them, I bet this thread might be discouraging some people from getting center caps from them.
I went yesterday to drop off the Viking at the dealer to get the winch installed. I had the tires ready to send back to Rocky Mountain with me to drop off at UPS when I was done at dealer. While I was there I was looking around and saw the two different size caps on some tire/wheel combos they had. The one Viking2k14 has, and the smaller ones that I was sent. I knew it had to be two sizes despite what Rocky Mountain and STI were telling me. My dealer went totally out of his way and offered to put one on to make sure it would fit. Well it did! He only had the flat black finish ones there and offered to just swap me for mine. I agreed and emailed Rocy Mountain back and asked them to just send me the caps when the ones are available for the viking.
Shortly after Jamie, at STI emailed me saying they had some chrome ones that might fit for now and offered to send them to me for free. They also said they would send me the correct ones when they are available. (Will not forget the good service)
So When I get her back next week she'll have new tires and winch.

Thats great news!!! Congrads.

Its going to look awesome!!!, i knew something had to be up with the center caps, since mine worked, just didnt seem right to me either.
yea I'm looking forward to it. I got the winch mount on the receiver hitch since they were paying for it. LOL that was more expensive so we will see if I keep it like that. I will at least post some pics for those who are interested to see it on a viking. I am still on the fence and really want someone to come out with the front bumper to mount the winch on.
Id like a front bumper, if we hadnt already installed the winch ourselfs. Wasnt the easiest thing, but not real hard either, but i wouldnt want to uninstall it. Im just gonna go with the Yamaha Brush Guard
Ya could have tried some spacers. If you do that get the 1.25 10mm chrome lugs to make it look good. In the future if you get the STI wheels again.
