Well I do believe the front diff is the weak link in these machines when they are locked in. Have had mine make some lovely screeching noises when its under load. Idk if whst the lockers look like in these yamaha but maybe its a clutch type and there slipping idk.

ive only used the diff lock once in some light mud, just to see how it did, only thing i noticed was how REALLY hard it is to steer in Diff lock. Other than that, no odd noises.

The front diff won't screech when locked... there is a dog clutch that locks it up tight, the only bad thing one will hear, if overloaded, is pops or bangs.

Big tires place A LOT of load on the whole machine... I'm thinking belt or possibly wet clutch.

It didn't sound like it was coming from behind me. The wet clutch was my initial thought but guess I will find out. Im still new to the Yamaha stuff. Im a Polaris guy so I don't know the inner workings of them yet. Polaris I can tell ya anything you wanna know just not these yet. But I do love my Viking.

yeah, it would me aswell. Hopefully its nothing.

Yeah, i like to ride too, just dont have anywhere right now but our streets in the Neighborhood, We live out in the woods, and at the end of our street is a gate, into a hunting club, i used to be on it, but got off of it last year. But there's miles and miles to ride in that area, all i gotta do is jump in the Viking and go through the gate and ride. Im gonna get back on there early next year. CANT WAIT.

I had a john deer Gator and the differential had a popping sound only when in 4WD. I jacked up the front and when I spend one of the wheels it would make a click sound when in 4th gear. I noticed the linkage cable that goes to the front differential transmission would jump back and forth a little bit. I pushed the linkage that the cable connects to in firmly and I spend the wheel and the click sound stopped. I loosened the nuts that hold the cable connected to the linkage and tightening up several rounds and the clicking stopped. I drove it after that and no more problem with popping sound from the front differential.
