No you shouldn't have to. I would consult the battery manufacture so you get the correct size and load capacity.

Can I replace my own battery with a lithium battery with out running into issues. Do I need to change anything to use lithium.

I use them as a direct swap in my WR450, no issues.
Any concerns about fires? Never considered one for the side-by-side or the lawnmowers until reading this thread just now.
