The Viking is a great machine, but everything built by man can be improved. Noise would have been my number one complaint, but Yamaha has seemingly addressed it already. However, there is still more that can be done. Here's a list of suggestions I would make to Yamaha to make this great machine even better:
1) Power. This is the elephant in the room. The Viking doesn't need 100 hp to compete with sport machines, but a nice V-twin of 70-80 hp would really give it a leg up on the Commander, Teryx, and Ranger.
2) Larger factory rubber. The Viking should be shod with at least 26" rubber from the factory. The additional cost would be negligible, the already excellent ground clearance would be improved, and it would sure make the unit look better when compared side by side with the Commander and Teryx.
3) Storage compartment. There is a ton of empty space below the driver's seat that just screams for a storage compartment. The factory storage box with the screw-on lid under the seat is cumbersome at best, and doesn't allow for larger items like a ground anchor. Why not make an external water-resistant door for that space? I would love to store my winch accessories, ground anchor, jack, first aid kit, flat repair kit, shovel, and other emergency items in that space. Yamaha could even package their own emergency kit as an accessory.
4) Deeper cup holders. Nuff said.
5) Relocate the gauge package. The gauge package should be located in line with the steering wheel. It's distracting to try to look over to the side while driving.
What other improvements would you guys like to see?
