If anyone is considering adding a second battery and looking at the larger Odyssey battery. I can't remember the part# but any how I have a tray and top. You will just need to buy the bolts/nuts to tie it in. I paid $80 and will sell it for $25 plus shipping. I went with the smaller battery like the oem and this wouldn't work it was too big.
I can get the dimensions if anyone's interested.
Found the battery it will fit, the Odyssey 925 battery.

I was thinking of getting the 925 but after talking to a person at Battery Mart they explained that the 925 has to be kept fully charged and my Commander didn't put out enough to keep both the OEM battery and the Odyssey charged on short runs. So I went with the Odyssey that was equivelant to my OEM which is much smaller but I already had the mount for a 925. So what I was saying is I had the mount if someone's interested.

So does the Odyssey require less 'maintenance' than other batteries?
I had an optima yellow top and even after a week of being left in a car without use it would fully deplete and just turn into a lemon

A second battery is good for extended winching sessions, longer accessory/radio usage (for those that have them)... and the redundancy is nice in case one battery goes out.... no one likes walking out.

Optima batteries have always been hit and miss. I had a red top die quickly under normal use, and many other stories, such as your's, back that up... tend to stay away from them for that reason.

Odyssey builds what are arguably the best batteries in the industry. AGM batteries require nothing but proper operating conditions and some occasional trickle charge from the proper charger during the off season. They are built better, so given the same conditions, one could probably say they require replacement much less often, rather than maintenance.

I've never been afraid of the battery dying, so I don't really see a need for a second battery. How much does this second battery cost?

Have you had an issue before where the battery ran out on you?

Just seems like it isn't that needed to me.

Most probably don't need a second battery, so no worries.

Cost depends on many factors.... but about $200 minimum would be a good start.

Yes, I have had batteries go out while on the trail, I've also seen batteries last way longer than they typically should. A lot depends on how the battery was activated and charged. Extended or heavy winching can drop a battery quickly, too... not to mention cold weather.
