Did Yamaha fix middle gear issue?

Just curious, I have no symptoms (knock on wood) of middle gear issues, but did Yamaha resolve this on newer models? I have a 2018 VI and was reading through some old middle gear threads. Made me wonder.

after two days of cuttting and chisling i finally got pan off.the case is leaking so am thinking of trying jb weld,any suggestions?
Worth a try. I’m not sure how it will hold up to the rattle of a single cylinder, but I have had it on many applications where it has to be chipped off.
Can you pull the front drive shaft and see if the middle gear is loose?

the crack in the case isnt in the joint,but on the very bottom and goes sideways towards the case bolt as if it was maybe over torqued or hit the support bracket.
Sounds like a perfect time to try and find an 850 motor and fabricate it to fit the Viking!

Any chance that happened when the middle gear failed the last time? Or possibly the case was weakened from that failure.
definitely try the JB weld or a good welding shop that can braze over the crack.

yes it is possible was from before as it was leaking when middle gear failed.the crack is hard to get too as the motor mount cross member is below it. if my repair doesn't work i might have to lift the motor a couple inches.

for sure. might have to take the motor out of my honda foreman as it still running strong.
