I am new to the forum and hope to pick up my Viking tomorrow. I would like to hear from anyone in SC AK that is an ATV/UTV rider in the great northland! I used to be a hardcore snowmachiner but gave that up after too many back and shoulder injuries. I hope to do some wilderness rides and overnight camping trips with my son in the Viking. Hopefully this will be less stress on my body! Anyone interested in riding and showing us some great places to explore? All of you lower 48 folks should bring your rigs up here next summer and explore AK with us!

I bought it!

The new red Viking should be out of the cold crate it was shipped in and parked in a nice warm garage tomorrow afternoon! I am waiting for the dealer to PDI it and install the new tires/wheels. I will install all of the accessories myself. I spent 90 minutes assembling the plow tonight so I just have to mount the winch and brackets. I will drive around and get some time on the engine before I start working it. Pictures will be on the way when I get it put together. I doubt the differential will get hot right now with the temperature at -20F right now! I will get a shield made to fit and get it installed anyway. I hope tomorrow is the day if I can take the super cold for a ride.

The toy is warm in the garage tonight! It took me 10 hours to install all the accessories and build and install the heat shield. We took it for a 1.5 mile drive around the pond since it warmed up to -15F. Tomorrow is the big day to go explore.

I am up to 3 miles on my new Viking! It has warmed up to -10F so I will take it for another quick ride while there is still a bit of daylight. I have STI Mud Trax 27 X 14 Tires and ITP SS216 14 X 7 Wheels. The salesman told me these tires would be very smooth on hard trails. Well…..they didn't look like that smooth of a tire to me and after 3 miles of driving around on the ice I can say they have a fair rumble to them and at slow speed they bump along pretty good. One of the pictures shows the diamond plate heat shield I made. The sizes for the two plates are 13" X 8" and 13" X 4". They block the exhaust from radiating heat straight down at the differential but it is still open on the sides. I will post more pictures after the frigid ride!

Looks awesome, congrads!!! Yeah, i would have went with some mud tires too, but i worried about the ride of them, i wanted something smooth, that didnt shake like some mud tires do. Does yours have Power Steering?

I do have power steering. The rig now has 13 miles on it. WOW was it cold. It warmed up to -5F and we rode for at least an hour. The paddles on the tires worked well in the snow but still shook on the hard pack trail. I will talk to the salesman on Tuesday about this. I insisted on a smooth riding tire and he assured me these were it. WRONG! The Viking drove great and even with the cold temperature, the fan came on every time I would stop and idle for a minute or two. You can see where I velcro'ed the winch control. It fits perfect right there and the cord is in the center storage box. Well…it was fun but will be more enjoyable when the temperature goes up 30 degrees. A lot of powder snow would swirl in when I went ripping through the deep stuff. Will post more as I have new adventures.

The winch remote is stuck to the side of the dash with velcro. The plug is at the bottom of the dash in the flat rectangle and the cord is folded up in the center box. Hey…where are you guys at?
