Was out in the stand at 530 in the dark yesterday. At 615 (still dark with a little light) this deer comes walking in from behind me. Stops right under my stand (which is only 10' off the ground because I put it on the edge of the woods on top of a hill and didn't use the 3rd latter extension). So I freeze.

So close yet so far away. By the time I get my rifle turned it was spooked. Beer me. That's like 6 close calls this season. So the blinds are up at my house if you know what I mean!

rain most of the day yesterday, supposed to rain all day today and wind picks up, more of the same for Wed. Thur is supposed to be nice with sunshine but cool so...think I may take a day off work and sit in a tree. Friday is the start of gun season and bow hunting will get a little harder after that.

I finally got a little blood on the Viking myself. I've had quite a few opportunities over the last couple days and finally let an arrow fly on this doe this mourning. I have always used Thunderhead broadheads but gave the Rage a try this year, Granted shot placement means the most but the Rage put her down in less than 50 yards.

I've seen two shooter bucks so I'm being pretty picky buck wise but I got a picture of the buck below sniffing the arrow around a hour after I had shot the doe. I had shot her pretty early so I sat for a while hoping one of the big ones would walk by but it was cool to see this guy. He's a nice 8 and should be a shooter next year, it's kind of hard to tell because my phone camera sucks and his antlers blend in really well with the leaves.

Lumenok glowing in the center of the picture

buck that came by, he's sniffing the arrow. surprisingly he just walked off, didn't spook at all.

the Viking makes for a great way to gut them, tie the head up in the corner and tilt the bed back.

Guess I was doing it wrong:

^^^nice. I suppose it works either way lol. I know a couple of guys that gut them that way. I've always preferred my way. open them up, cut all the nessary stuff loose and pull. you don't have to, but a hatchet to bust out the pelvic bone makes for a clean exit.
