Just got back from my 18 day DIY public lands hunt and never saw an elk. Saw about half a dozen deer, all does, but could not get a satisfying shot, so I let them walk, plus a few had fawns and I will not shoot a doe with fawn(s). Hunted hard, but about 4 thousand sheep and 300 cattle pushed all of the wildlife out of our area. Maybe next year when the grazing allotments are in the next zone. Great looking bull, Buckg2. It keeps my hopes up. LOL.
It's a lot of steep country, but success is surprisingly obtainable with a bow. There is usually four of us, this year we had six, we killed two bulls.
Not really. I have hunted this area after Landmark was destroyed by fire a few years ago. Now I hunt just northwest of New Meadows (Smokey Boulder area). Unfamiliar with other elk rich areas of central or southwest Idaho.
