Street legal in Texas

Just picked up a VI and thinking about trying to make it street legal. I have a Tusk UTV with mirror set up headed my way, windshield is on, and getting dot tires next week. Will keep the aversive set for the off-road excursions. Anyone go through the process and been successful ? I will be running off road but also would like to use it around the backstreets to the pool with the kids and not get hassled.

Also any input on dot tires? Probably going with either 28" or 30" on a set of wheels similar to what I have now.

The biggest you can go without a lift is 28". If you go bigger you will also need a JBS Sheave.

I'm running 30"'s on it now and plan to do that. I bought the Viking just as it sits in the picture. The shelve kit is definitely on the list. My biggest concern is that I bought it and it has the yes warranty until 2021 so not sure of that would void the coverage.

I was worried about the same thing at first and pretty much decided that unless a dealer actually dis-assembled the sheave and saw the new sliders they would probably not even notice the difference. The 30" tires, on the other hand may cause problems depending on the dealer. They could claim that the very big and heavy tires put a lot more stress on the drive train. Very worst case, if your engine blew up you could always put your old sheave and tires back before taking it in.

That sucks. I drive mine on the street all the time in my neighborhood.
To be street legal in Arizona all you need is 1. Rear view mirror 2. Horn 3. License plate light. That's it.

Got me a cooler for beer

Yeah, i live in the woods, out in the conty, and everybody drives around the neighborhood roads, on golf cars, utv's, atvs. But far as shate highways, NOPE. Texas just doesnt allow it. Like i said, they find it ok for a 2 wheeled machine, but not a 4 wheelsed side x side with rooll cage and seat belts..doesnt make any sense.

throw a bale of hay in the bed and put slow moving vehicle sign on the back.

I know some counties her in Ohio you can make them street legal but think i heard a clause that states they are only allowed on roads 35 or 45 mph or below. Of course you need all the windshield, turn signal horn and all but also have to cover it with the equivalent insurance coverage as a car is required to carry collision wise.

I have seen a couple Polaris Rangers and golf carts with plates on them running around in a little 1 light town that has its own shady police department out in the sticks by me so if those cops haven't gotten them it must be legal or they are related?

2015 Viking EPS SE

JBS Radiator Mud Guards

Lots More Planned...

Yeah we live in spring and everyone is out on the golf carts with no apparent issues. I put the big orange triangle on the back as I could not give in to buying a golf cart and hoping for the best. I really planned on making it street legal to use around our area as all roads are 35mph or slower, but I am having a really hard time trying to even have a conversation with any official about it. I think some of these areas are missing out on a opportunity. Why not allow these as long as you are following the rules and on streets 35 mph or slower and charge a nice yearly permit fee and roll on?
