First bear track I think I've ever seen! What happens if you come across one on the trail, are they a problem or do they generally just run off?

Depends on what kind of bear, and the mood they're in. Black bear most always run off. Brown bear can get owly on occasion, but usually go away as well.

either one can get surly if they've got a cub along. I see more Moose than bear in Idaho, and quite frankly am a bit more weary of them.. most definitely if a cow has a calf along, or if it's a Bull in rutting season. Those suckers can get downright mean.

I know this... a full grown Bull can just ALMOST run down a fat guy on a Honda SL70.

in most incidents between animals and man it's usually the animal trying to protect it's young or food supply with an odd ornery critter with no fear of man.

Haha reminds me of a similar story, I used to breed water buffalo years ago, I used to round them up on the Honda CT200 Ag bike, every now and then one of the cows would get cranky and turn and charge. The ag bike would just be that tiny bit faster to make it exciting and make me want to do it again lol
