valve adjustment

so after taking my new VI to the dealer. they told me that the backfire popping sound was normal and not to worry unless it keeps up? Then have them do a valve adjustment/ check when i come in for my first service. They also they told me the first service runs with valve check about $560. WTF Just went for a 25 mile loop from house and it was Popping every time i let off throttle and it was doing it coming off long grades where i was giving it no throttle and some break. btw the breaks rubbing and squeaking and this thing farting constantly its hard to relax and enjoy the actual riding experience. ....... Which brings me to my question, have any of you done your own valve adjustment and was it fairly easy to do?

Mine doesn't pop at all.. Is your head pipe cracked where it bolts to the cyl? Popping like that typically indicates oxygen getting into the exhaust system near the head..
There have been quite a few head pipes breaking on these. Hence the need for the upper motor mount..
I'd check it.

Valves are easy and well detailed in the service manual.

FYI, my dealer down here in Prosser, Wa. charged me somewhere around 350 to do the first service.

I'd definitely get the valve adjustment done, regardless if you do it, or some one else does.

Could be an exhaust leak, valves don't usually cause popping. What kind of fuel do u run? Sometimes poppinghoots away with higher grade fuel
